The Nimbin Environment Centre is a non profit organisation run by volunteers. Our history is rooted in the successful battles which saved Terania Creek and The NightCap Forest. Our efforts continue in the 21st Century with a range of local and national activities including supporting blockades to stop CSG and coal mining and logging native forests. We are very conscious of our continuous role as custodians of this land, hand in hand with its first people: The Bundjalung nation. We are fearless in our work to defend, protect, preserve and enhance the environment in Australia and overseas. We are one with the words of the Bundjalung Elders as displayed in Cullen St Nimbin: We belong this country We look after this country Don’t do wrong around here this country We belong this country.
At Summerland Credit Union, we’re making a difference by providing people with ethical banking solutions to fulfil their life dreams.
As a proud supporter of the Nimbin community, our profits don’t go to external shareholders, they go back to our customers, as owners of Summerland, through fairer fees, high quality products, services and investment in the local community.
We believe that no financial institution should have any direct investments or any loans with fossil fuel or CSG mining industries, nor investments in weapons, tobacco or gambling.
We are committed to ethical banking and a greener region. That’s why we’re proud to be the first and only financial institution to be recognised as a Gold Partner of the Sustainability Advantage Program from the NSW Department of Planning, Industry and Environment – acknowledging our leadership and commitment to sustainable excellence.
By banking with Summerland, your money is being used for good by an organisation that cares as much about the environment, your community and an ethical banking industry as you do.
Branch Manager, Graeme Herne has over 30 years banking and home loan lending experience, with an appreciation for supporting the local community through our various programs.

The Nimbin HEMP Embassy was created in 1992, along with Nimbin’s annual MardiGrass cannabis law reform rally and gathering, after a particularly savage round of police helicopter raids on hippy communities growing pot in the Nimbin area that season. The Embassy’s objectives are cannabis law reform through educating the community about the cannabis plant and hemp, while also supporting various community groups and projects in the village of Nimbin. The Embassy’s shop sells a variety of hemp products including food, clothing, accessories, books, hemp based health and beauty items, smoking gear, in fact anything to do with the plant, including a little grow shop.
