Nimbin Chamber of Commerce Annual President's Report 2022

Dear Members and Stakeholders,

I am honoured to present the Nimbin Chamber of Commerce's Annual President's Report for 2022-2023. Serving as President has allowed me to witness the incredible strength of our community, particularly the Nimbin spirit of effecting positive change through collaboration with one another, government agencies, the Lismore council, relevant authorities, the police, and all our local organisations. We have also actively participated in numerous cultural and artistic events such as the Poetry World Cup, Fashion Show, Spring Arts Festival, Youth Music Rocks, and the development of the Skate Park.

Key Achievements

  1. Community Liaison We have strengthened our bonds with the community by actively engaging with government bodies, local organisations, and authorities to collectively work towards our shared goals of prosperity and community development.

  2. Advocacy The Chamber has strongly advocated for our community's needs, from road improvements to waste management, parking solutions, gardens, and water supply. We have voiced Nimbin's interests in discussions with the council.

  3. Infrastructure and Amenities We have made significant strides in improving our town's infrastructure. Notable achievements include initiating the "Rainbow Road" walking trail, modern signage, and securing funding for streetscape enhancements, including the main pedestrian crossing, through a Wayfinder grant project valued at $500,000.

  4. Tourism Promotion To boost tourism, we have funded the printing of 4000 tourist brochures and organised the highly successful "Illuminate Nimbin Night," thanks to the hard work of Kylie and our dedicated team.

  5. Cultural Enrichment We have continued to enrich our community through support for local events and artistic endeavours, including ongoing mural restoration efforts, which require more artists and restorers.

  6. Aquarius 50 The Chamber proudly is auspicing the proposed Aquarius 50 event. This significant undertaking will celebrate the "alternative" development since 1973 and represents a massive project that we are excited to participate in.

  7. Accommodation Expansion Recognizing the need for more accommodation options for visitors, we are actively working on addressing this issue to ensure the continued growth of our tourism sector.
