David Hyett - President

Dear Members, This year has been one of steady progress, meaningful collaboration, and renewed community energy as we continue building a resilient, inclusive, and future-focused business environment in Nimbin.

Acknowledgment of Committee and Community

First and foremost, I would like to thank our dedicated committee members and the broader business community, who continue to contribute their time, energy, and ideas to the Chamber. Our executive team has been a source of strength, and I am particularly grateful to:


Aline Binetruy – Secretary / Vice President

Leadership in Women in Business initiatives. Building connections between Nimbin Central School and the local business community. Driving the establishment of the new Interagency Group in Nimbin through her determination.

Diana Roberts – Secretary / Committee Member

Deep and practical knowledge of Nimbin, Council processes, government, and navigating bureaucracy. Offers invaluable experience and insight to the Chamber and the village. Played a major role in bringing the Rainbow Walk to fruition — now a significant community asset.

Ariescia Matheson – Treasurer / Finance

Careful management of the Chamber’s finances. Ensuring everything remains organised, compliant, and up to date.

Steven Taylor – Committee Member

Valuable contributions in the area of roads, transport, and pothole remediation. Although not continuing next year, his work and commitment are sincerely appreciated.

Nimbin Valley Dairy – for generously donating their beautiful cheeses for tonight’s event and supporting local business activities.

Currently 73 members: 49 business members and 24 community members.

Relevance of the Chamber to the Village

The Chamber plays a central role in: • Representing local businesses and organisations • Advocating for Nimbin at Council and regional levels • Strengthening the local economy and promoting sustainable growth • Providing a collaborative forum for discussion and solutions • Helping shape the future direction of Nimbin’s village and precinct.

Celebrating Local Business Excellence

Nimbin businesses continue to set high standards for quality and innovation. This year we recognise: Mountain Top Coffee — Sydney Royal Show achievements Nimbin Hardware — new village premises Jonathan Spain — development of The Hub Contained in Nimbin — national tourism awards Nimbin Emporium — excellence in customer service and youth employment Rainbow Power Company — innovation in solar technology


Acknowledging Business Innovation & Capacity Building

The Chamber supported A Public Speaking Workshop (February) • Four Women in Business Meetups • Three Chamber Networking Meetings

Listening to the Community – The Chamber Survey

The Chamber launched a community-wide survey to capture local needs and priorities. Participation is encouraged to guide future planning.

Celebrating Nimbin’s Cultural Identity

Our cannabis culture and creative arts continue to reflect Nimbin’s identity and vitality. Venues such as Nimbin Town Hall and the Bush Theatre enrich both community life and the local economy.

Championing an Interagency Approach

The Chamber is advancing a bi-annual interagency meeting to improve collaboration between community groups and strengthen communication with government organisations.

Rainbow Road – A Community-Driven Achievement

The opening of Rainbow Road on 23 March 2025 is a celebration of community unity, creativity, and cultural heritage. It provides a reflective, engaging space for both visitors and locals.

Chamber Advocacy – Business Rate Levy Secured

The Chamber successfully advocated for retaining the business rate levy, ensuring essential funding for: • Mural maintenance • Women in Business Youth pathways • Major events


Advocacy for Safer Roads

Road conditions continue to impact residents and visitors. The Chamber remains active in advocating for safe, reliable infrastructure.

Nimbin Markets – Signage & Free Membership

New signage is being developed and free Chamber membership has been offered to regular stallholders.

Murals and Signage Projects

Ongoing mural work at the hospital and newsagency reflects Nimbin’s artistic heritage.

Community Safety – Vehicle Camping Behind Cullen Street

The Chamber is advocating for compassionate and practical solutions regarding long-term vehicle camping in unsuitable locations.

Building Futures – Pathways from Classrooms to Careers

The Chamber partnered with Nimbin Central School on a youth employment forum and supported the school market day, fostering real-world business learning.

Welcoming New Residents – Fairview Estate

New residents at Fairview Estate have boosted economic activity, supported local trades, and strengthened the community.

Looking Ahead
