A community conversation on work and pathways for Nimbin youth
On Monday 12 May 2025, the Nimbin Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with Nimbin Central School and Nimbin Youth, welcomed the wider community to an inspiring evening of collaboration and commitment to our young people.
Held at the Nimbin Central School MPU, Bridging Futures: From Classroom to Career was a free, all-ages event inviting locals to explore how we, as a village, can create stronger pathways for our youth as they transition from education into meaningful employment.
A powerful turnout:
Educators, employers, government representatives, youth workers, young workers, students, parents and community members came together in one space to listen, share and build ideas. The event was a show of community spirit and a clear sign that Nimbin is serious about supporting its young people to thrive.
Presentations that sparked conversation:
The evening featured thoughtful presentations and practical insights from:
Nimbin Central School staff and students
Training Services NSW
Nimbin Youth
Local employers and young people currently navigating the world of work
Nimbin Chamber of Commerce, who also shared highlights from the recent Nimbin Business Survey
The discussions covered everything from vocational training and job pathways to the need for meaningful work experience opportunities and youth-led career exploration.
Key themes from the evening:
Young people shared their hopes and challenges, giving an important voice to young people in the room.
Employers offered to open their doors to students for shadowing, mentoring and practical experience.
Nimbin Youth reminded us that support needs to be flexible, relational and grounded in the real lives of young people.
The Chamber’s survey findings reinforced that the community sees youth employment as a top priority, with strong support for local initiatives that connect young people to meaningful opportunity.
What's Next?
The event was not a one-off — it was a springboard!
We now have stronger links between schools, youth services and business. We also have a clearer vision of what’s possible when community sectors work together. The Chamber will continue to foster these connections and advocate for initiatives that create real outcomes for local young people.
If you’re a business interested in offering work experience, a parent wanting to be more involved, or a young person with ideas — please get in touch.
Because it really does take a village to turn potential into possibility.
