Chamber Member Spotlight

Nimbin Apothecary Nimbin Apothecary is Nimbin’s only herbal dispensary, offering affordable over-the-counter health care advice from fully qualified herbalists.

Established in 1990, the Apothecary specialises in individually prescribed herbal medicines, herb teas, nutritional supplements, lifestyle advice, general health care and its own range of aromatherapy products

More than a retail space, the Apothecary is part of a growing local ecosystem of growers, makers, herbalists and community-minded people working together to provide high-quality, locally grown and locally made herbal products.

Over the past two years, Nimbin Apothecary has been working closely with Goatie Hill Farm in Blue Knob to grow many of the medicinal herbs and plants now used in the Apothecary’s dried herbs, infused oils and fresh plant tinctures.

What began as a response to supply challenges after COVID has grown into something much deeper: a shared vision for meaningful local jobs, soil care, community connection and a more reciprocal way of working with the land.

At its heart, Nimbin Apothecary is about honouring the people, plants and ecosystems involved in every step - from the farm, to the medicine-making process, to the shelves, and finally into the hands of customers.

A friendly Q&A

What’s one thing happening in your business right now that you’re genuinely excited about?

Nimbin Apothecary has been working together with Goatie Hill Farm (Blue Knob)  for the last two years to produce many of the medicinal herbs and plants that are now used in the Apothecary from dried herbs to infused oil and fresh plant tinctures. After covid and experiencing the strain on supply and quality of herbal medicines we decided to start growing our own herbs to secure supply and ensure quality, but it became about much more than that. Jenny (Goatie Hill Farm) and I had a broader vision of creating meaningful jobs, building community, caring for soil and practicing farming in a way that felt reciprocal, not just taking from the land but giving back. We wanted to grow medicine in a way that honors people, plants and ecosystems involved in every step. It is an absolute joy to work with Jenny and see the beautiful herbs in the Nimbin Apothecary and I am super proud to see all our hard work finally make it to the shelves and into our customers' hands.

What do you wish more visitors or locals understood about your business?

I guess I wish I could communicate how much care and effort goes on behind the scenes to ensure we are getting high quality products and affordable prices to our customers. Between the farm, the medicine making and the retail space there are 11 people who put their skills and experience together to create everything you see in the Apothecary that has our label on it.

What’s one thing you love about being part of the Nimbin business community?

I love the care and support the community shows to our small businesses.} I especially love the "circular economy" it creates by supporting each other. Locals spend money in the Apothecary which then is spent in other businesses in the community and so it continues.

How was trading for you during MardiGrass 2026?

MardiGrass 2026 was the best year for trading for us. Usually it's no more than a "good day" but we just enjoy being part of the celebrations and community. This year it felt like people had money to spend and wanted to spend it, which surprised me given the current economic climate. It shows that Nimbin has something unique to offer and people really appreciate locally grown, locally made products.
